_Museum of the Senses / Energy Factory
Saint Petersburg, Russia
Collaboration: Mor Segal
Located in Saint Petersburg, Russia this Waste to Energy facility hybridized with a Museum of the Senses sits on the district line separating industrial park from commercial and residential sectors. Pulling from vernacular brutalist architecture and elaborate Russian palaces, the building blurs the line between object, machine and museum.
Through a carefully planned processional sequence, visitors of the museum seamlessly experience the energy factory and the art exhibits cohesively. By using an architecture that is industrial and mechanical, but also detailed and of precious materials, it challenges the viewer by never quite allowing it to be fully understood. This ambiguity ties back into the buildings program to create a cohesive piece of architecture and experience for people to reflect on.
