Brooklyn Middle School, New York

The current education system has been relatively unchanged for the last 100 years. It still uses a factory model approach and does not prepare students for today and tomorrows world. Teachers give lectures that uniformly deliver information to students with all different backgrounds and learning types. The learning process has been watered down and standardized and consequently does not deliver information effectively to anyone.
New models of education are emerging with a drastically different approach. Many jobs are being replaced by machines like factory workers, taxi drivers, grocery store clerks, etc. How can we better education the youth and prepare them for the work force? We have to teach them how to look for problems to solve. Students need to be able to use resources effectively and creatively.
